Perth COVID-19 Lockdown
29 Jun 2021
As announced by Premier Mark McGowan last night 28th June 2021, Perth will enter a four day lockdown. As such, HULC will only be able to see patients that meet the essential patient criteria. Our admin team is working hard to contact all our patients to advise them if they require a face to face appointment this week. All category 2 and 3 surgeries are set to be cancelled, at this stage until the 9th of July. Your surgeon will be in contact shortly to reschedule your appointments. HULC is able to offer ZOOM consults if able. If you are able to be seen via ZOOM please advise our admin team and we can organise that appointment for you. Thank you for your patience during this challenging time and stay safe.
HULC Launches New Website
2 Jun 2021
The team at HULC have been busy building a brand new website. The Hand and Upper Limb Centre is moving forward in a big way, starting with the launch of our new website. With an emphasis on accessibility, our new website is designed for easier navigation to ensure patients and health professionals can access the information they need. It's important that our patients and fellow health professionals are able to access the information they need without the hassle of trying to navigate a complicated website. Our three main pages are broken down in Who we are, Conditions and Therapies. Patients are able to find information about potential conditions they might be presenting with or gain an understanding about a diagnosis given by a GP or specialist. From there, our therapies page highlights the services we provide for patients while they recover from their injury. Patients and health professionals can learn about the type of splinting services we provide in addition to the other therapies we complete on a regular basis.
Celebrating Hand Therapy Awareness Week
2 Jun 2021
June 6th - June 13th is Hand Therapy Awareness Week! This week we celebrate Hand Therapy Awareness Week. Hand therapy is a critical part of the recovery journey for many patients with an injury to their upper limb. Form elbows to wrists to fingers, hand therapy can help build up deficits in the upper limb that might be lingering from an injury or a surgery. Our team of Occupational therapists are passionate about this area of occupational therapy and are always eager to return patients to their meaningful occupations. Occupational therapists are trained to identify occupational imbalances in a patient's life. An upper limb injury can cause major disruption to occupational engagement and patients can feel drained physically and emotionally. Working within the scope of hand therapy, our team of OT's can help patients work through these issues effectively to help improve their quality of life.
